Girl Child, Beware of the Dragon
Girl child, you matter.
Beware of the dragon that will creep up on you and pounce on you when you least expect it.
Beware of the dragon that will take advantage of your innocence.
Beware of the thief in the night that will steal your shine and yet live normally with a fake smile during the day.
Dust yourself off and show this dragon that it has nothing on you.
Wake up, learn happiness and unlearn sadness.
Dance if you may.
Sing if you may.
‘Cause you are all.
‘Cause you are everything.
‘Cause you are everyone.
‘Cause you are “thee” Girl.
Deep in the middle of the night, you heard footsteps, your hair left your head, your heart pumped faster than normal. You were so scared, you were shaking. You tried to speak and words could not escape your mouth.
It was the night dragon that was hoping you would step outside your house for your night pee. It waited in vain for you, but you were not pressed enough to even think of going outside that night.
The dragon became impatient and dragged itself next to the door. You heard its heavy breathing. You imagined it spitting fire. You even thought you saw red flames showing through the cracks of the door. You were scared for your life to say the least. Then you knew that if you dare open that door… You are a goner.
A goner like those girls that were happy, lively and bubbly during the day, but just disappeared and vanished during the night. The girls that were crept upon and pounced at night in the comfort of their homes. The safest place, they thought.
The dragon held the handle and tried to open the door. The door was locked. It pushed the door a number of times until it pushed all its weight against the door and the door still could not open.
Seeing that all its antics had failed, the dragon tried another strategy. The dragon called your name and said, “Please open for me. I promise you, I will not hurt you.”
You kept so mum, you breathed in and out to relax during the whole situation. You remembered all the other girls who vanished during the night and you knew that this dragon was definitely the thief in the night. It was definitely the stealer of the girls.
You recognized its voice and you had all the power to expose it. You had the power to expose all its atrocities. The dragon gave up the fight of waiting at the door and silently left.
The next morning, you woke up with all the power and the dragon looked at you with shame and held its tail between its legs and flashed a fake smile and you said, “You have got nothing on me and I will pull the rug under your feet, when the time is right.” You said this silently with your eyes piercing straight into the dragon’s.
